Francolins

The francolin is a bit of an odd one out here – unlikely to be asked about in the same question as the quail, partridge or peafowl. Francolins are an informal grouping of birds in the pheasant family (Phasianidae) that live in Asia and Africa. There are about forty extant species.

While you might get asked what family of birds the quail, partridge or peafowl belong to, with the francolin it's more likely to be "What type of bird is a francolin?"
